pNick Chester already touched on this in his outstanding a target=”_blank” href=”http://www.destructoid.com/metroid-other-m-to-bring-you-closer-to-samus-than-ever-164917.phtml”iMetroid: Other M/i preview/a from yesterday, but I got so excited about this one particular detail that I felt it bore repeating./p
pSince upcoming Wii game iMetroid: Other M/i has been revealed to be the direct sequel to iSuper Metroid/i, I figured there would be a few references to the SNES masterpiece thrown in here and there. But, this … well, this I wasn’t ready for./p
pIn the opening cinematic of the game, the entire final sequence from iSuper Metroid/i is recreated with drastically improved, completely 3D visuals. To try my best not to ruin it for anyone who hasn’t played iSuper Metroid/i (blasphemy!), this is the now legendary sequence involving Samus and a certain Baby Metroid. For people that ihave/i experienced it, it goes without saying it is one of the most emotionally complex, exquisitely staged sequences in videogame history./p
pIt also happens to be the very a target=”_blank” href=”http://www.destructoid.com/the-memory-card-01-the-return-of-baby-metroid-31238.phtml”ifirst/i/a memorable moment I covered in my long-running a target=”_blank” href=”http://www.destructoid.com/elephant/index-short.phtml?t=The%20Memory%20Card”Memory Card series/a. And it also just so happens to be MY FAVORITE VIDEOGAME SEQUENCE OF ALL TIME!/p
pNow, I don’t want to get my hopes up for what I am going to see come a target=”_blank” href=”http://www.destructoid.com/metroid-other-m-releases-on-june-27–164850.phtml”June 27/a — the tragically beautifully a target=”_blank” href=”http://www.destructoid.com/the-memory-card-02-palom-and-porom-s-noble-sacrifice-31348.phtml”Palom and Porom scene/a recreated in the iFinal Fantasy IV/i remake for the DS, for example, was not inearly/i as powerful in 3D — but this news is still very exciting to hear. To this day, the return of the Baby Metroid still brings a little tear to my eye every time I see it. It really is that stunning. For me, seeing this genius piece of visual storytelling recreated in iMetroid: Other M/i alone is worth the price of admission./p
pWhat do you think? Does this little detail get you excited about playing iMetroid: Other M/i? Where would you rank the Baby Metroid sequence in your list of greatest videogame moments of all time?/p
