/script!– /videoId: qybUFnY7Y8w — a class=”autolink” title=”Click here to read more posts tagged #okgo” href=”http://gizmodo.com/tag/okgo/”OK Go/a’s new music video for “a class=”autolink” title=”Click here to read more posts tagged #thistooshallpass” href=”http://gizmodo.com/tag/thistooshallpass/”This Too Shall Pass/a” is four minutes of pure a href=”http://gizmodo.com/5483526/ok-gos-embeddable-music-video-for-this-too-shall-pass-features-insane-rube-goldberg-machine-sequence”Rube Goldberg insanity/a. And as these behind-the-scenes videos show, it was every bit as monumental an undertaking as you’d expect:/p
pWhat started with a two-paragraph synopsis of the band’s vision quickly ballooned into a massive-scale project requiring 20 engineers. The work was headed up by Syyn Labs (formerly Mindshare), a collective of “creative engineers” who explore the intersection of art and technology./p
pThe planning started last November, with actual construction not beginning until January. It was a massive undertaking: eight core builders responsible for most of the design and building, 12 part-time builders to complement the work, and six weeks of uninterrupted work./p
pThe result: a a class=”autolink” title=”Click here to read more posts tagged #rubegoldberg” href=”http://gizmodo.com/tag/rubegoldberg/”Rube Goldberg/a machine with dozens of moving parts filling an entire Los Angeles warehouse, andmdash;important to OK Go lead singer Damian Kulashmdash;no computers or other “tricks.” Just pure physics in motion./p
pShooting the video took two days and more than 60 takes, with most attempts failing at around the thirty second mark. To reset the entire contraption took a team of 30 volunteers close to an hour. It’s all really remarkable stuffmdash;and it doesn’t hurt that it’s accompanied by a such a catchy tune. !– videoId: xsPn-tD5zvg –script type=”text/javascript”
