Earlier this month, news kicked back up again that Robert Rodriguez was still in talks to direct the long awaited X-Men Origins: Wolverine spin-off Deadpool, but gossip around the water cooler speculated that the director would be too busy with other projects. And, while that remains to be seen it has been reported that Rodriguez has endorsed the project and has commented on his involvement. In a recent interview with Hero Complex, Rodriguez said of the Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (writers of Zombieland) screenplay, “It’s a great script and a great property.” In regards to his potential involvement, the director admitted to having taken part in meetings with 20th Century Fox about directing the film. However, he remained resolute that nothing is official and that his next directorial effort is still undecided.
Rodriguez, who just finished the final sound mix of “Machete,” sounded gung ho about “Deadpool” but added that he is still debating his next project. “I’m just working everything out,” Rodriguez said, noting that he is choosing between three options for his next directing job. He said one is the long-discussed “Sin City 2″ but he declined to name the other, though it could be “Nerveracker,” a far-future thriller that was announced last year but hasn’t moved as quickly as anticipated.
