Hey bastards! Check out the very first pic of Karl Urban (Lord of the Rings, Star Trek) as Judge Dredd from the upcoming Dredd movie.
“They’re making a new Judge Dredd movie?” Yes bastards they are. 2000AD partnered last year with independent studio IM Global to bring a more faithful, R-Rated take on the Mega-City One lawman to the screen.
It is being promised to deliver everything the 1995 Sylvester Stallone version didn’t.
“The main thing about Dredd is that it’s a fantastic comic that was completely messed up 20 years ago,” producer Andrew Macdonald told Empire earlier this year. “Our idea is to make a very hard, R-rated, gritty, realistic movie of Dredd in Mega-City, so we’ve got to get the tone right. He’s not going to take off his helmet. His bike is going to feel real. He’s going to hit people and it’s going to feel real.”
Dredds face will never be seen in the movie and there will be no Rob Schneider. Double win.
Directed by Pete Travis from a screenplay by Alex Garland with concept illustrations provided by Jock and co-starring Olivia Thirlby as trainee Cassandra Anderson, “Dredd” will be distributed in the U.S. by Lionsgate.
