Holy cow could you imagine Daniel Day Lewis playing Moriarty!? How freakin’ incredible would that be!? According to Super Hero Hype Day Lewis is Guy Ritchies first choice to take on the villainous role in Sherlock Holmes 2. 

I would love it if this actually happened, but Day Lewis is extremely picky about the projects he takes, and I seriously doubt he would be interested in taking the role. In the first film Moriarty was only portrayed as a shadowy figure in a carriage, leaving who would end up playing the character wide open.

Brad Pitt was rumored to have the role before the first film even came out, but it doesn’t look like that ever really panned out, and he will not end up playing the character. Other actors being considered for the role if Day Lewis doesn’t work out include Sean Penn, Javier Bardem and Gary Oldman. All great choices because they’re all great actors. 

As of right now this is all just a rumor, but it’s a rumor that gives us something to think about and discuss. Daniel Day Lewis is one of the best actors in Hollywood right now, and he makes for a brilliant villain, but he picks projects that pushes his acting abilities even further. I just don’t think a sequel to a commercial film franchise like Sherlock Holmes is his thing, but ya never know… maybe he’ll make an exception and do it.
