2001 MANIACS:FIELD OF SCREAMS Exclusive Interview: Lin Shaye Vs. Brian S

Actress Lin Shaye is stepping back into Granny Boones boots for Tim Sullivan‘s 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams  and she was kind enough to let me ask her a few questions about the movie, the Maniacs and a few other things continuing my almost year long “Road to the Maniacs”. Lin has been in so many cool movies including both Dumb and Dumber movies, There’s Something About Mary, Kingpin, A Nightmare on Elm Street and many, many more. Check out our cool interview, here’s another check off my bucket list! Thank you Lin Shaye! You Rock!

Brian  S- Hi Lin, first off I have to say I’m a huge fan of yours!

Lin Shaye- Hi Brian! Thank you for getting in touch!  and thank you for your “fanship!”…

Brian  S- It has been five long years since 2001 Maniacs, was it easy for you to slip back into Granny Boone mode for Field of Screams?

Lin Shaye- Now to “sweet Granny”….It was actually pretty easy to slip into her character..  I always try and “ground” my characters, no matter how broad  they might be.  Grannys “hatred”/”:love” for “her dinner menu” is really about her desire for “justice” and ‘revenge”….that was something that attracted me to this material…that at it’s black little heart, it is about people trying to find peace with what has happened to them, and the injustices of war, and what war can drive people to do.  Maybe that sounds “a little heavy” for, as Tim would call it, a SPLATSTICK film, but as an actress I try and look for the most universal meaning and justifications for my characters. Even tho the first Granny was 5 years ago, once “ah slipped into her clothes, thoughts and ringlets…” she just popped right back out!

Brian  S- What’s your best memory in making this cool sequel?
Lin Shaye- My “best memory” was really each day…I loved being the “matriarch” on set…” and loved completely speaking my mind…creatively and otherwise!!  Tim and I have a great collaboration too, and feeling safe always lays ground for one’s most creative and original thoughts…So Tim is definitely one of my best memories!

Brian  S- What’s your weirdest memory in making field of Screams?

Lin Shaye- My “wierdest” memory…was having to SING AND DANCE!  We had  NO rehearsal time…and a choreographer tried to teach us this really complicated “routine” after we had been shooting a whole day for the “cannibal” sequence the next day…we were all exhausted and couldn’t seem to learn a thing!…so it was a little of the actor’s nightmare when we got to the scene the next day and I knew NOTHING!..Tim to the rescue…with all the chaos around us, he was calm, collected, supportive and confident…so low and behold!>…….you will see it all on screen!

Brian  S- Sum up 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams in one word.

Lin Shaye- One word?  AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! (is that a word??)

Brian  S- Would you like to say anything to all the fans checking this out?

Lin Shaye- To the fans???  I promise:  YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED…IT TRULY IS A FIELD OF SCREAMS…the good kind!  To quote wonderful Tim:  SPLATSTICK…..alll the way.
