We had occasion to visit the lovely and entertaining waterfront vicinity of San Francisco this past weekend, wherein we stumbled across this beauty: the Raygun Gothic Rocket. This epic rocket is a collaborative art installation, and some seriously retro-futuristic fun. As you can see in the pics, it’s got a golden-age sci-fi feel reminiscent of Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, and the covers of countless pulp books and magazines.
You can’t go inside the rocket, but you can get up close and personal with this gleaming bit of fantasy. The visionaries that have guided this rocket from concept to completion were on hand, tweaking things and installing some info-taining displays for passersby to see. They were friendly and nice, chatting up some of the younger art lovers that happened by.
If you happen to be in the San Francisco area, this is definitely worth a visit. The Raygun Gothic Rocket is very likely, in our humble opinion, to become an iconic piece of pop art. For that reason alone, you should check it out. Beyond that, this is sure to awaken the inner junior astronaut from your very own childhood, as well as inspire your young ones to some epic flights of fantasy. If you’re in the area, try to pay this fusion of antiquity and technology a visit. It’s well worth your time.
