Intel: Atom definitely not cannibalized by tablets



“We think tablets are exciting, and we fully welcome their arrival,” Intel CEO Paul Otellini told analysts on the company’s recent earnings call. “Apple has done a wonderful job of revinventing the category,” he added, before acknowledging that tablets will impact PC sales “at the margin.”

But the company isn’t sitting idle. “We take a longer term view of the tablet opportunity,” Otellini added. “The overarching benefit is to have a new, growing computing segment… We’re going to utilize all the assets at our disposal to win this segment.”
